What is CBD?
CBD (cannabidiol) is a phytocannabinoid, or naturally occurring compound, found within hemp and other plants. The hemp plant was originally cultivated 50,000 years ago to harvest and spin fiber. Today, it is grown to make a large range of industrial and consumable products such as paper, rope, clothing, insulation, biofuel, food, animal feed, and of course, CBD. The Phytocannabiniod, CBD, was first identified by American organic chemist Roger Adams in 1940. In recent years, scientists have discovered more than 100+ phytocannabinoids. In the hemp plant the most prevalent cannabinoids are CBD and Delta-9.
Is CBD legal?
The 2018 Farm Bill legalized, on the federal level, the regulated production of hemp, or any part of the cannabis plant with a THC concentration below 0.3%. States, however, have the final say in whether or not cannabis-derived products are legal within their state lines.
Does CBD get you high?
CBD is not psychoactive. This means that it does not cause intoxication and does not cause a person to experience a high.
What are the health benefits of CBD?
There are so many! CBD has been shown to help relieve occasional stress, support cognitive health, and promote calmness & relaxation. It has also been shown to support a healthy immune system, promote joint wellness, decrease muscle pain due to exercise and assist in maintaining optimal sleep levels.
How does CBD work in the body?
To explain how CBD works in the human body, we must first introduce the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The ECS is a biological system made up of naturally occurring molecules (endocannabinoids) and their receptors which work together to help the body maintain balance. The ECS was discovered when researchers sought to understand the affects of THC on the body. Researchers found that the body naturally produces cannabinoids which act as messenger cells throughout the body. The body's internally produced cannabinoids are called "endocannabinoid" and plant-produced cannabinoids are called "phytocannabinoid" but most people use the term “cannabinoids" interchangeably. While scientists are still learning the complexities of the Endocannabinoid System, it is believed to be crucial in regulating bodily functions such as mood, sleep, appetite, immune response, and stress.
CBD is believed to work by supporting the endocannabinoid system function, thus aiding in the body's ability to maintain balance for healthy biological functioning.
What else can I do to boost effectiveness of CBD?
The best way to help boost absorption of CBD is through eating healthy fats. Snacking on a handful of raw almonds is a great on-the-go option to take with your CBD.
What are the benefits of CBD when added to a massage?
Adding CBD to a massage may help to reduce inflammation, which can help with sore muscles and joints. CBD has also been shown to help relax the mind, promote calmness, and help aid into a restful nights sleep.
How should I feel after a CBD massage?
Many CBD users say they feel a sense of positivity and calmness after a CBD massage!
How long does it take for CBD to work?
I love this question because CBD American Shaman uses nanotechnology which makes our product break down much quicker than other CBD products on the market! One of my favorites is the water soluble. When using ‘regular’ CBD products, there’s often a 30-minute wait (or longer) for the effects of CBD to set in. This is due to the body’s need to break down the hemp oil containing the CBD. Because water soluble nano-CBD oil has been broken apart through proprietary nanotechnology, the effects of CBD go to work faster, with almost no wait time!
How long should I wait to shower after using topical CBD?
Our CBD American Shaman massage oil absorbs almost instantly, so you can shower right after your massage. However, this varies depending on the product used.
What forms does CBD come in?
There are so many CBD products to choose from! Some of the many CBD products offered include: topical serums, topical creams, oil tinctures, water solubles, gummies, capsules, beauty products such as lotion, face cream, bath bombs any many more.
What form of CBD tends to be most effective for muscle recovery?
Typically, a topical CBD cream works best as it provides targeted relief directly to the tissue. However we suggest the “inside out” method to balance the body on the inside as well as the outside! You can do that by also adding a water soluble or tincture to your beverage or eating a gummy.
Are there any side effects of CBD?
Even though CBD has many health benefits, it also carries some risks. Side effects include a change in appetite, drowsiness, dry mouth, and diarrhea. If you experience any undesirable side effects, cut back on the amount you take or stop taking CBD altogether. If you experience any severe side effects, stop taking CBD and seek medical attention. This is extremely rare! The vast majority of people can take CBD without any negative effects.
Is CBD addictive?
According to recent research, CBD is non-habit forming and is not addictive. One study compared the addictive properties of alcohol and opioid drugs to CBD oil and found that CBD does not release chemicals in the brain that cause physical dependence, as addictive substances do. Addictive substances will cause withdrawal symptoms within the body if the substance is suddenly no longer being used. Since CBD is not addictive, it won’t cause withdrawals and the body won’t need to use increased amounts over time.
When would you recommend using CBD products?
There are so many variables down to the quality, type, and potency of the product. Also, as we have mentioned, CBD comes in many different forms. The best way to know what is best for you, is to visit your local CBD American Shaman location and talk with a certified CBD consultant!
Are there any common misconceptions about CBD?
Definitely! One of the big ones is that it produces a ‘high’ which we have already cleared up. Proper education is essential to debunking these misconceptions. CBD American Shaman certifies our consultants so you know exactly what you’re getting and how it works.
What is your favorite CBD American Shaman product?
My favorite product is the CBD water soluble. I drop it in my coffee in the morning and I feel ready to start my day!
